A review of this place

I absolutely adore Chiang Mai. Markets are great and dirt cheap, temples are plentiful and amazing, and there are so many treks and tours to do around the hilltribes, to the waterfalls, caves and all other amazing places in the area. SO much to do. Second favourite place in Thailand behind Phi Phi.

Chiang Mai is great… I went there last November and my friend and I had a great time, trekking, elephant trekking, watching thai boxing matches with the locals, riding drunk on the back of motorbikes with thai guys, getting massages from prisoners at the prison – the girls were lovely! Defo worth doing. You can also do cooking courses and massage courses up there, I wish we had done that too!

A tip I have about this place

If you visit Chiang Mai and you’re on a budget try staying at the Pun Pun Guesthouse. It is cheap, clean, and quiet. The owners are really nice and they have really really good food. Tell them I said hello, they are my favorite people in Chiang Mai!

Beautiful city. Very down to earth people and easy to get around. It just has this special feel to it that we didn’t get from anywhere else in Thailand.

It was amazing here. Less touristy then down the south so it is possible to meet some great locals who are so friendly and things are a bit cheaper. There is still heaps to see, with a great night market and also day trips up to the mountains with rafting, visiting hill tribes and elephant riding. One of the best things we did was an amazing cooking class at pad thai cooknig school. It was so much fun, the food is great, and the people were fantastic.

Chiang Mai was great. We visited the night market, rode elephants, visited the silver factories (fascinating) and stopped for fresh fruit at roadside stands. I wish we’d had more time there. The only thing I didn’t appreciate that much was the food. We really noticed a difference between the food of Northern Thailand and the rest of the country. Spicier and less coconut milk I think. We stopped for lunch one day and I couldn’t even put the soup I ordered in my mouth! And I’m not a total weenie when it comes to hot food. Still, a great memory.
