Belo Horizonte

It is a bit of a dump in the old centre, which is badly in need of rennovation.

However, The market is worth visiting, as it has specacular displays of food, handicrafts and animals.

The posh areas are cleaner with the usual anodyne shopping centres etc. Most of the reccomended restaurants are in the wealthy suburbs.

The art centre is also rather beautiful.

There seems to be a lot of music on the streets.

It looks like at Peanut Street (Rua do Amendoin) near the Pope Square (Praça do Papa), the cars go up the street with the engine turned off when they should go down the street. I’ve read this is an optical phenomenon… all I know it’s weird.

Grew up a bit here, but one thing that always bothers me whenever I go is the streets, oh the mess! lol…But if youre into big cities and love malls, heres the place…I really reccomend ‘BH Shopping’ :)

Well, well, well… I visited BH a few times when i lived in Minas Gerais, you know? I have to say that the direction of some streets can really make us angry when you dont know the city so much, we found it out while my sister was doing her tests. Big malls, just a city as crazy and nice as Sao Paulo.

I thought that I find my place. A good city with all kind of things I need.
I feel safe, I feel loved, I find great friends. I can’t imagine my life away of BH anymore.

I was raised in Belo Horizonte. I love nearly everything about this city – the people, the places, the weather… except the traffic, of course. With its hills, BH is like several cities into one. It’s not as costly as São Paulo and is far less violent than most of brazilian big cities. The people is polite, nice, approachable, and beautiful. There are countless nice places to go, specially in the vicinity of the city, over the mountains.

I remember most vividly the lightening, and how it strikes at the hills because there is so much metal ore in the ground. And of course the people. Belo is people.
