Salvador

(in Brazil > Bahia)
I met my wife in Salvador.

Great place. Good food. Friendly people. Nice beaches. Lots of parties.
I went there for the first time around the end of 1998 for 6 months to visit my sister and her Brazilian husband. Spent my 20th birthday there and Christmas and New Years. My second trip there was around early 2003 and I stayed for about 3 months. This was the best trip of my life because I met my beautiful wife at my sister’s church. Her name is Mariana and we got married in my hometown of Kailua Kona, Hawaii September,8th, 2007. 9-8-7. Easy to remember. My 2nd trip to Brazil was during the Carnival. The whole city parties for like a week. Pretty crazy. I believe my third trip to Brazil was sometime after we got engaged on 8-8-08. That trip was for about 5 weeks. My 4th and most recent trip to Brazil was a couple of months ago and we stayed for a month. That trip was incredible. www.facebook.com/michaelrkitchen

Amazing, beautiful city. I love Brazil so much. It’s definitely one of the best if not the best place in the world. There’s an awesome laidback attitude and basically everything there rocks.

Salvador was definitely my favourite city in Brazil. The people were great, the atmosphere electric and the weather beautiful. I also got a near religious experience there by going to a football game: Bahia vs Avai. Of course Bahia won :-) It was just amazing!

Salvador

Salvador is the capital of Bahia, in the northest from Brazil. Salvador was the first city to be populated by the Portuguese in the 16th century.
Today is the “city of the carnival” .. from December to March.. every people just think about the carnival (which is more or less in February).
I ‘ve been there last July hollidays.. It is always hot there even during the winter.. People there is very very kind, they are always smiling and laughing… All the beaches are perfect!

A review of this place: Salvador meu Deus...

Anybody visiting Salvador winds up spending at least some time in Pelourinho. Pelourinho is the Old City, the old heart of Salvador, with colonial-era buildings and winding cobblestone streets. Lots of good stuff - music and capoeira - is there. The place is full of bars and restaurants and small shops.
Tuesday night is Pelourinho’s biggest party night. It’s called “Bencao” (or blessing), from an origin in the Igreja do Santo Antonio’s custom of giving away bread to the poor on Tuesday evenings. Bahia has a way of turning religious events into parties, and that’s exactly what happens here; lots of people, lots of music, and lots of dancing. “Bencao” is even bigger during the summer months (December, January, February), and the biggest parties during any given month are the first and last of that month.
For information, Bahiatursa has an information center (with maps and other resources, and attendants speaking a number of languages) at Rua das Laranjeiras, No.12. Any policeman or shopkeeper can tell you where it is, or point you in the right direction.

A review of this place

Every summer my mom, brother, sister, and I stay in Brazil for two months to visit family, relax, and have some fun in the sun! Usually we stay for about two months and travel all over bahia. I have about a bajillion relatives…lol.. that live in Brazil but I would have to say that salvador is my most favorite city to stay in, mostly because I lived there when I was younger and because of all the great memories it brings back to me as well as creates! The beaches here are BEAUTIFUL and the people are great ;-)
