Juneau

Expensive tourist trap of a capital…but head up to the mountain top right by the port. Sights from there, on a clear day, are gorgeous.

Alaska is worth visiting, but Juneau itself is nothing special. Plus it’s full of panhandlers.

eh, it is ok, but a bit too touristy

I have lived here since Agust 27, 2003, and I love it!

Juneau was my favorite city in Alaska. We flew into Juneau, and spent two days there. The downtown is filled with cruise ship people during the day, but at night, the scene quiets down, and bars and cafes become relaxing places to hang out. The park that borders the town is absolutely specatcular. I am dying to go back.

An excellent base for outdoor activities—we took a helicopter to a glacier, and we went whale-watching. Certainly the most beautiful state capitol I can think of!

Born and bred in Juneau (well, Douglas…true Juneauites know the difference!). It’s a beautiful town, especially on the 4th of July.

Beautiful city. We certainly didn’t have enough time. We took an Alaskan cruise and this was our first stop. We had a sea-plane outing, which was breathtaking, so we didn’t get to just hang out in the city as long as we would have liked. What we did see makes us want to come back and spend more time here. If you’re here for just a day, be sure to check out the tram, the view is fantastic!

I’ve taken Juneau, my hometown, for granted all my life. But ever since I went away to San Francisco for college and came back to Juneau during the summers to visit, I’ve appreciated it so much more. Juneau is the safest, cleanest, humbling place you’ll ever find yourself in.

The excursion I was supposed to take in Juneau was cancelled, so I had the opportunity to walk around town. It’s small, but there’s plenty to see beyond the tourist strip. I did enjoy the Red Dog Saloon – for the price of a drink ($3.50 for a rum and coke) you get 20 minutes of free Internet access – and the drink! I had a good time walking around even though it was raining.
