This was one place on the very first vacation I ever went to. I would like to go back and actually Look at what I am seeing.

Savannah is very beautiful-it’s unbelievable how well-preserved the buildings are and the huge oak trees which canopy the city are gorgeous. It is very touristy although I’m sure when you live here you get used to that and find a whole different city underneath. I was looking for a place to live and for me Savannah seemed too formal. All dressed up in Sunday best…I was only here a few days in the winter. It felt like a very sleepy town-nobody hanging out in the beautiful public squares on a sunny bright mid-morning except for the tourists. I did go out at night here…and then realized that probably the locals were just sleeping in, because there seems to be a hopping night life :) And it might be really different in the summer. The influence of SCAD is everywhere and that is cool-the art school seems to sprawl all over Savannah and I saw lots of young people with portfolios. Still, it seemed to me that unless you are going to SCAD, are a professional, a tourist, or a well-off retiree that Savannah doesn’t have that much to offer. It does not seem to have a lot of inexpensive cafes/coffeeshops/used bookstores/cooperatives-the kind of things I look for in a town. There is a small eco-scene but you really have to look for it. On the positive side, it does seem like a gay/lesbian friendly place. Savannah’s downtown is very easy to get around without a car-I loved that. And the people here are really friendly.

i went on an Olde Town bus tour. I highly reccomend it, as Savannah is a gorgeous city that you simply have ti see, and it has tons of history and is so beautiful. The Spanish moss drapping the stately, hundred-year-old trees are an amazig sight to behold. don’t expect a small city removed from history with antebellum mansions only though, as Savannah is still a work in progress in urban renewal. The squares are just as amazing as the pictures- probably even more so in the summer; I went in January so it was kinda dreary.

I have only been in Savannah since August-I’m going to college at Armstrong Atlantic State University, but I can already see that it’s a beautiful place. Riverstreet is one of my favorite places so far. The festival there are fun and browsing the shops and stalls is always nice. Another great place to visit is the Gordon House. It was the house Juliette Gordon Low, founder of the Girl Scouts of America, lived, and a must-see if you are or ever were a Girl Scout.

We visited Savannah last summer to attend a Paula Deen cooking school. The city was lovely with so much history! It was easy to navigate and had many tourist attractions in addition to being close to the ocean and beach. There are many areas within driving distance (Charleston, NC) and wonderful restaurants in the area. We had even discussed moving to the area because we loved it so much.

Go to eat at Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House on Jones St. on a Thursday. That’s the only day they serve salads.
