Alexandria

I lived with my eldest sister the summer before I joined the Navy. She herself, was stationed at the pentagon and I had a very “interesting” summer there. Besides all of the Monuments, don’t miss the Smithsonian or the Library of Congress. One thing I’ll never forget as long as I live is sitting on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial listening to Grandpa Jones and String Bean pick banjos and watching fireworks behind the Washington Monument during the National Folk Festival in 1973!!

Love it! Such a wonderful town next to the capital. Cute shops, nice parks, and tons of great resturants. I would love to go back here. Wish I didn’t have to move.

It’s a nice enough place. Lots of history, quaint shops in Old Town Alexandria. A few decent restaurants have opened recently! My two latest favorites are Restaurant Eve and Cafe Marianna.

I lived in a beautiful apartment in a large development off Van Dorn Street when I had an internship in DC (alumni-donated housing… I’m forever grateful), and I miss Alexandria. I wish I would have taken advantage of living there more, but I was watching my wallet and knew the bus and metro fares would add up quickly if I got in the habit of going out too often. King Street Blues has great barbeque sauce. The Torpedo Art Factory is one of a kind. The Giant food store has the best in-store radio I’ve ever heard. Ross has great discount clothes (I got my favorite skirt there for $12, original price $40). I wish I could have those months back to experience them again!

I loved Alexandria, I thought it was a really cute little city. I can see why George Washington lived there.

I doubt I’ll ever leave AVA, despite the opinion of the rest of my friends. Tourists love this place. Advice: If you go to Old Town the only food that you’re getting that isn’t expensive is the Subway on King Street.

I haven’t been to the Torpedo Factory, but I’m going this spring. There’s a regular, trendy yarn store, and a great place a few blocks away with looms and spinning wheels and everything.
