How this place changed my life

I met a little boy named Taj, who flew kites. He crashed one over the embassy wall one day, and I taped Tootsie Rolls to the ribs before handing it to the guard to get thrown back to him.

-Maybe all of our lives could be a lot easier if we focused more on giving back the little things.

News about this place

I’ve been there 3 time the last trip was almost 7 months long. The people are about the friendliest I’ve met on the planet – the standard of living though is probably the lowest of any place I’ve been. Kabul with a population of approx 4 million has an open sewer system and no working traffic lights which makes it interesting to get around.

The nan bread is incredable but one has to wonder about where they get their water to bake with. It’s not uncommon to see sewage trucks dumping into the river and children playing downstream in the water a few hundred feet away.

How this place changed my life

Seeing little children wandering the streets with no shoes and tattered clothes begging for money. Seeing the violence and the filth and whole human equation unfold before my eyes every day that I stepped out my front door.

Amazing place

This is one of the most exciting places I have been. The people there are incredibly friendly, not uncommon to have them invite you for dinner. When I was there it was very green, but it was still very dusty.

Kites over Kabul!

Despite being war torn and full of testerone packed soldiers and development do-gooders, an aire of peacefulness and innocence is everywhere. Children play and kites fly. Hospitality abounds. Hopefully the country will open up again someday.
