Athens aka: Athinai, Athena

Sadly I didn’t get much time in Athens, but Parthenon was definitely breathtaking… for a moment it takes you thousands of years back in time…

Also loved the food, cheap and delicious! We didn’t know where we were going so we just picked random restaurants off the street and none of them was disappointing. And the ice cream too :)

Almost everything we looked at told us “Spend two days in Athens and then get out!” I could have spent much longer there! We had a wonderful time and only saw the smallest bit of what is available. Is it dirty? It’s a city, so of course it is, but it’s got a lot of personality. (From what I understand, it’s much cleaner than it was prior to the Olympics.) Enjoy Athens!

Great history here – everywhere you go, there are reminders of the past. The city never sleeps! Sometimes we end up with dinner plans at 10PM and then go out all night. Good times, good times!

Athens was okay, not my favourite.. but I’m not a city girl by any means.

Tip: Don’t use taxis. Use the metro. Taxi drivers are like Speed Racer (I seriously thought I was going to die). And, if you HAVE to use a taxi.. make sure they charge you the right fare. Watch the meter, and make sure it is on “1” during the day/into the night (I think “2” is only past midnight into dawn). I got charged an INSANE amount from my taxicab driver, and lost a lot of my money, and seriously wanted to go home that night!!!

If you have any problems, they say to mention the tourist police :P

But.. besides that.. I would say visit the Plaka, and walk up the hill where the Temple of the Muses is… at night. You can see the whole city lit up, as well as the Acropolis. Very pretty :)

Culture galore! You won’t forget your first view of the Parthenon on the Acropolis.

I was amazed by the culture and history that was all around me all the time the sculptures and buildings. It’s so amazing The Ancient City of Athens is a photographic archive of the archaeological and architectural remains of ancient Athens. It is intended primarily as a resource for students and teachers of classical art & archaeology, civilization, languages, and history as a supplement to their class lectures and reading assignments and as a source of images for use in term papers, projects, and presentations. We also hope that this site will be useful to all who have an interest in archaeological exploration and the recovery, interpretation, and preservation of the past.

i go to greece evry copul of years, i have family over their. i absolutly love it. Its just such a diffrent expreicne and its so bueatiful, its one of those places evryone should go. I also recomend Lakonia, wich is loacted in the south of greece, its a truely remarkable place
