Baja California aka: Baja, Baja California Norte

I kayaked a good portion of the Sea of Cortez in Baja California through NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School) and it was the most amazing experience of my life…the dessert, the mountains, and the sea. I found strength and serenity in myself.

worth it.

It was depressing comming here because in the area we visited, most people were living in cardboard boxes. There were lots of feral dogs that you couldn’t pet because they carry diseases. The family that we helped was a mother, a father and thier four children. They had several cardboard rooms that they were living in when we got there. We made them a cement house. I taught the mother how to crochet, so that she could make crafts. It was an interesting experience.

A group of buddies and me are looking to possibly charter a boat to tool around the Sea of Cortez for about 4 or 5 days.

Would love to hear if anyone has tried it? What time of year did you go? Where did you charter from? Where did you go while you were there??

I loved how it went from desert in your back yard to beach front in your front yard!

I just went to Rosarito for Memorial Day weekend 2006. It’s a chill area….the water is too cold for swimming though. Yummy fish tacos all around! Go to Puerto Nuevo (lobster village) and get a cheap lobster meal – - yum!!!

and loved it. i lived in vicente guerrero, and my dad worked on an orphanage. went to the beach pretty often and caught lizards and snakes to keep in our aquarium.

Not triffically great, I mean, yeah, it was a mission trip so I really didn’t see much, but it… well… it smelled, really bad… and that really really really bugged me, so not a place I’d want to go back to.

Awesome road trip! Lots of empty space and desert too.
