I’ve been to Almaty three times for business purposes. I think the best thing about the city is the mountains which are so close. With just a ride of 30 minutes from downtown, you can be at a ski resort at 2500 meters..

There is great skiing in the mountains, but don’t dare break your leg there- the medical care is very poor. A friend of mine lost 3 toes after an operation by a local doctor.

People at the bars there kept trying to give me marijuana…

I want to see (and taste!) the wild apples.
