Guanajuato (State)

First time I went was when I was 9 months old. My dad’s youngest brother was 10 years old and he asked to hold me as they pulled me out of the car. My young uncle held me for a second and started to walk but tripped over a large rock on the ground. He tried to hold on to me but apparently couldn’t because a second later I was falling onto the dirt road. This was the first time I touched the ground in Tarandacuao, Guanajuato and even though I don’t remember it, I am reminded of it every time I visit and my grandma goes into her storytelling hour.

This is the coolest city in Mexico . The tunnels under the city and the old churches are amazing. The weather is alway great.

While you’re here, check out the Mummy museum. It’s very compelling. Also, visit the summit of the mountain popo… I’ll stop butchering right there. All in all, it’s a beautiful place with great food!

Guanajuato is simply the nicest town that I have seen in the Americas. It is colonial, civilized, clean, and graceful. This is the best city in Mexico to visit as a tourist.

Guanajuato is an amazing city. I’ve been twice and can’t wait to return. It is less Americanized than San Miguel, and has a university that brings in a wonderful international crowd.

I just started my fourth week of studyng Spanish in the city of Guanajuato. I love it here! It is not as touristy as I had feared, and it’s a fun place to explore on foot.

The tip I have is about buying silver, especially jewelry. There are several great shops in the area called Valenciana, where there is a big, beautiful church (you must see the inside to believe it). Two shops are on the same side of the main street as the church. The other two are on the opposite side of the street. You can easily get to Valenciana by city bus (4 pesos) or taxi (30 pesos). For the bus, go to the corner opposite La Alhondiga and ask for the bus to Valenciana.

Many of the shops in the center of Guanajuato have the same tourist junk and the designs are not very interesting. So go up the mountain to Valenciana—you will enjoy it.

I’ve been there a couple of times.. it’s very mexican and colorful.. I loved the plazas, the mummies, el callejon del beso, the mine, the tunnels, and of course the market and the bakery.. pretty nice over there !!

I love colonial architecture, and this place have TONS of it. The streets are all small and crooked, like the colonial towns used to. Sometimes, in the little parks you can find everywhere around, you can even feel like you traveled two hundred years back.

A lot of cultural activities to do during day and night. Theres the Cervantino, in October, I think.

This place is JUST magical, its one of my prefered cities in Mexico, and Ive been in many!
