Vanuatu

I can’t maneuver the damn cursor to find Micronesia, so I picked the closest thing it woudl recognize on the globe, which is apparently Vanuatu. Looks just as unreal/beautiful. A friend of mine was raised in Micronesia and described it to me; it sounds like paradise. I hope to actually go there one day.

I can’t wait to go to Vanuatu. I’ve volunteered for a teaching position on the island of Pentecost for 6 months, working in a primary school of about 70 students. I’m a little scared, this is my first time out of the country, and the longest I will have ever been away from my family and friends. But it’ll be so worth it!

but I was so young that I barely remember it. It seems like such a waste..it wasn’t worth ME visiting. But I’m sure the place is great. So one day, I want to go back and see for my (adult) self :)

A beautiful place to visit. We have been here twice. The people are so kind and friendly, especially the villagers. The tour guides are amazing and so helpful. A wonderful warm place to relax in. The markets are delightful, and the stall holders are always so grateful when you buy their wares. You can hire a car to drive around the island (not wise to do it when there is a cyclone threatening). Beautiful beaches, swimming and snorkelling. A true delight.

i just heard that there is a place in Vanuatu called The Underwater Post Office – I want to go there even more now.

I lived in Port Vila from May 1990 to September 1993 and returned for a holiday in January 2005. I’ll be happy to tell you as much about Port Vila as you would like to know.

Spent 3 weeks here back in mid 80’s. Came over with the NZ Army Band for the South Pacific leaders Forum. Stayed with the NZ High Commissoner. They had just bought their local brewery online, Tuska beer…great stuff. Every store on Vila’s dusty main street sold the stuff..didnt matter what the shop was,beer was sold. Best food was coconut crab.

Vanuatu is a very peaceful and beautiful island paradise. Crime is low or unheard of. If you go to Vanuatu you must drink kava. They have the strongest kava in the world.

Part of Melanesia, so it’s very familiar, since our second home is in New Ireland, PNG.

A lovely tropical destination for the tourist. Great diving (accessible wrecks and reefs almost as extraordinary as PNG), a strong and diverse set of indigenous cultures, the world’s most accessible active volcano (on Tanna island), and the intriguing collision of Anglo, French and local cultures in Port Vila.
