A word of Warning!
I found out quite abruptly that Camouflage is illegal in Trinidad and Tobago when I had my Backpack taken away in Customs!

I was born in T&T and lived there until I was 10 years old. The scenery is amazing! Beaches, coral reefs, rainforest, rivers, the wildlife. The people are beautiful, I love my family. Carnival is something you have to be a part of at least once in your life. I miss Trini cooking, yearnin for a “bake-an-shark”!

We spent most of our time on Tobago and we loved it. We’d definitely go back given the chance. The flight from Trinidad to Tobago was a little nerve wracking since the plane looked old and smelled bad. Made me worry about maintenance records. Once we arrived on Tobago though we knew we’d found someplace special. It was beautiful. The hotel was nice and not too expensive. Everyone was friendly and we got to explore mountains, valleys and beaches.

I was born and lived in Trinidad. It is truly a beautiful land of beautiful people. And the food is absolutely delicious. I love visiting. I hope to go during carnival soon.

T and T is a place to go where you will not find the typical caribbean experience. It is much more rustic and undeveloped than the rest of the region (tourism industry at least). I would recommend this place for the more adventure driven traveler. There are some amazing beaches and great food. If you find it, West Indian hospitality is amazing. I have never met a nation of bigger partiers. Trinny’s know how to through a huge bash!

I live and work in Trinidad so I guess if you need advice or what to know about the place I might be one of the best people to ask.
What can I say about the place… hmmmm… it is interesting. I guess here we have the best of both worlds. Trinidad the larger island has a ton of places to visit, even most of the Trinis here (including myself) havent even been to these places.
If you want to relax, enjoy nice clean blue beaches, live the quiet small island life. It would be best to go to Tobago (the sister isle) Just a 15-30min flight and 1-2hr boat ride.
Trinidad on the other hand is more hussle and bussle. Big Business, Big Buildings, Huge Malls, Night Clubs, American and Local Restarants etc etc. So there is always a party or somewhere to lime (hang out) on this island. You can still relax and chill here as well… take a boat ride down my the islands. Check out Maracas Beach, rivers, bars etc etc.
People also wonder about Crime. Yes there is crime here. There is crime here like any other place. Personally I think there is a bit too much at time… but it is not as bad as people may report. Yes if you look for trouble you may get into trouble, so just use common sense and be smart. I have lived here for 6 years and the most that has happened to me is someone broke into my car and stole my laptop. I should have known better… and well I took a chance and bram… I got shaft.
It happened to be as well in LA… as well… would I go back to visit… sure. Just shit happens.
But like I said once you are smart, dont look for trouble or venture alone in seedy areas you shouldnt have a problem. I live in Curepe. People may say here is rough, but I walk around at night 1am drink a couple beers, eat some doubles and head home. Maybe I have been lucky, I dont know. But it is all part of life… explore, relax, have fun (and hope for the best)
THE BIGGEST THING IN TRINIDAD IS CARNIVAL
Around Feburary. Thousands of people from all over the world come to take part in this festival. Pan, Soca, Food and the big Parade. If you have to come… come during this time. It is a blast…. it can be tiring, but say wha.
But all in all… I think it is a cool place to visit.
So check it out
