I’m Chinese, and I’d never been to China before this past year. My parents wanted to take me to not only immerse myself in the Chinese culture but to visit the Olympics of 2008. It was an experience definitely worth remembering. I’d never been to a place before where so few people spoke English or where I didn’t speak the native language. Overall, though, I enjoyed visiting an entirely different place and seeing the different lifestyles of Chinese citizens. It made me realize the difference between being an American and Chinese citizen. If my ancestors hadn’t had the courage to start a new life in America, I could have been just another person wandering the streets of Beijing.

I want to go to China and walk along the Great Wall. I also want to take a boat ride/cruise down the Yangtze. I’m hoping to spend summer 2009 in eastern China!!!!!

I thought Guilin and Yangshuo were very beautiful places to visit. The limestone karsts are just amazing and cruising down the Li River provides lots of ‘Kodak’ moments!

It was last summer ‘08 (around April-May)
The places we have visited:
Kunshan Province
-this is a very peaceful province with wide roads and warm people although most of them are non-english speakers
-we went at their famous HuangPu River and a temple (?) i forgot where it was but i am sure it was in Kunshan.
Shanghai
-i saw the TV tower, watched Acrobatics, rode a cruise ship, went to their shopping place at Nanjing Road (?)
Visiting here as a first timer is very worth it. I want to go back and this time visit Beijing. :)

I went to China trained in martial arts for a couple of months and went around; Yantai -> Dalian -> Shanghai -> Beijing -> Yantai -> Yangshuo -> Guilin -> Dalian -> Hong Kong.
It was awesome. I had the best time in China, saw some amazing things, ate some amazing food, and met some amazing people. I’ll be heading back again as soon as I can, I want to train some more and see Xi’an and more of this stunning country.

I am thinking of going this December, just for a brief visit.
It just seems that every time I think it’s finally the right time to go, another story hits the papers about contaminated food or some kind of environmental crisis. Am I worried about nothing?

I have always wanted to go to this place, especially after watching the opening ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics. This goal will be fulfilled by the end of this month, as i’m flying to China for a holiday.

My youngest sister was adopted from China in 2002. I love and love and love her (with more love on top). Someday, hubby and I hope to adopt one of our children from there, too.
