Thailand, a great palce to be

I have been visiting Asia and Thailand for the last 28 years. Now I am living in Bangkok and working part time for Green Wood Travel, a small travelagent specialized in tailored holidays, just the way YOU want it. Very willing to advise anyone on any travelling in Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and let you experience the real thing. just ask!

Why I recommend this place to visitors

If you want to witness and experience local life and interact with Thai people beyond the hotel-beach-bar-hopping tourist trail, try a cultural exchange trip with Andaman Discoveries.

This community-based tourism and sustainable development organisation is located on the Andaman Coast, a three hour bus ride north of Phuket, and originally grew out of the North Andaman Tsunami Relief fund.

Just a simple three-day homestay in one of the local villages will bring you closer to the people and culture than you could hope to achieve over a much longer trip along the usual tourist track. You’ll live with a local family and explore the village and its surroundings, seeing and participating in activities such as planting mangroves, designing batik, roasting cashew nuts, fishing and much more.

You can interact with the people, practising basic Thai with the adults, playing around with the kids, stuffing your belly with gorgeous food courtesy of your hosts – and finally find a moment to yourself to relax and watch a magnificent sunset on the local beach.

You’ll be supported by staff at Andaman Discoveries, who will arrange all transport, fully brief you on what to expect from your trip and supply a guide/translator who will accompany you on your visit to the village.

And, if you truly fall in love with the place, you could always sign up for one of the longer-term voluntary opportunities, teaching English at a local school or helping out at a local orphanage.

A tip I have about this place

Despite the fact that I was stuck here for a week due to the protests at the airport, I loved every minute of my trip!

Stay in Hua Hin rather than Phuket if you want beautiful beaches and nightlife; but don’t want tourists and streets designed solely for farang…

The first time I went to this place

Me, my wife and our two kids (then 4 months and 3.5 years old) went there for three weeks in November/December 2006. We stayed a few nights in Bangkok, but most of the time we stayed on Ko Chang.

Fantastic place, good food and excellent service.

The last time I went to this place

I have been to Thailand many many times and it never ever gets boring! I went to the grand palace every trip and yet it still amazes me! Last time I went though was the best time! They were having their new years festival and to celebrate the whole country gets in a water fight!! Really worth going and deffinetly if you have children!

Just Got Back!

Wow. This place is awesome. Hubby and I visited Bangkok and Chiang Mai for about 10 (11? 12?) days. We took in the Grand Palace, Wats Pho and Arun, some Thai boxing, elephant rides, bamboo rafting, 6 different tribal villages, a waterfall, a cave, an orchid and butterfly farm, and countless markets. There are bursts of color in every nook and cranny, and the Thai people are both friendly and generous. It was an incredible trip.

The first time I went to this place

... was in July 2007 with my choirmates. we joined an international chorale competition and we won the grand prize! after the competition, we were able to visit some tourist spots in Bangkok and of course, went shopping in Suan Lum (i hope i spelled it correctly _;)

i would definitely like to go back here so that i can visit some of the tourist spots that we were not able to visit. :)
