I passed through Slovenia on a train from Milan to Athens. Back then it was governed by the former Yugoslavia. I didn’t really get to see much of Slovenia even from the train because it was night time and there was nothing to see from the train’s window but darkness.

I’d like to stay in the prison hostel in Ljubljana and then swim to the church in the middle of Lake Bled. A friend claims Bled is the most beautiful place he has seen anywhere in the world, and those are pretty big words considering he’s from British Columbia.

Went on an Adventure Holiday with Explore (www.explore.co.uk) – toured around Ljubliana, Bled, Lake Bohinj and Piran.
Visited Savica waterfall, Skocjan caves, and Predjama castle, as well as swimming in Lake Bled, Canoeing on Lake Bohinj, Horseriding (well my daughter did) and a BBQ meal on a boat on the Adriatic!
People were very helpful and open – all good English speakers but appreciated my very poor attempts at Slovenian. Highly recommend going. The Explore tour was an excellent introduction to the country!
(By the way I work for Explore)
