I’m actually from Uruguay :) So, not only I’ve been here… I lived here until a couple of years ago.

There are many nice places to visit in Uruguay, the whole east cost has many beautiful beaches & cities/towns (Punta del Este, La Paloma, Punta del Diablo, Cabo Polonio, etc), Colonia del Sacramento (in the west) is also a beautiful place (but this is a river coast, not sea/ocean).
Montevideo is a great city too, not really turisty, but still a lot of great places to visit.

One day I'll go back.

I was born in Uruguay but haven’t been there once since I left to come to Australia. One day I’ll return.

Uruguay

I just finished Uruguayan writer Juan Carlos Onetti’s The Shipyard in an English translation and it’s made me curious about this country. It’s one of those places you’ve heard of but never hear anything much about it! I’m definitely intrigued now!

The land that time forgot?

Only a day trip here so not sure if it can be counted as going here. Jammed in between two of the biggest countries in South America poor little Uruguay has to shout a lot to be heard. Nice place from what I saw though and a Uruguayan’s uncanny ability to drink mate’ from a thermos while riding on a scooter is unmatched anywhere else in the world I believe.

Beautiful place with a real outdoors culture. The people are lovely, too. I went here twice on business and would love to go back for a holiday.
