Guinea aka: Guinee

i went to guinea to study west african drum & dance… it was quite the experience to say the least!

Africa was AMAZING!!!!! most people say “oh africa is trashy dont go there” and im not gona lie, some parts were. but i went there with a group called TRJE (go to www.TRJE.org for more info) for three weeks to learn about the mande speaking people, ther culture, there dances, and ther wanderful music!!! We even stayed through christmas and new year of 2006. but it was. I would definatly go back!!! Oh and on New Years eve.. we had a massive party WITH the them!!!!!!!!!hers a pic!!!!!!

I go here on vacations every now and then. The night clubs are AWESOME!!! Conakry is a very vibrant place, friendly people (but be careful some might want to steal your goodies). The country is really poor. Overall, Conakry is one of a kind.

Guinea is a very charming and authentic country. Nature is preserved compared to other countries in West Africa and people are very friendly. If you like “organized tourism”, dont go there… There’s no tourist accodomation…

like fleabite said, avoid connakry (the capital). Unless you want some excitement, or some strange barganing adventures in the marketplaces.

The open road is really nice, and the small village towns are the best.

Loved it. Spent a couple of weeks travelling through in 2001. Beautiful place. Avoid Connakry. Mountains are stunning. People are interesting.

Just too frustrating a place… Too bad, really ! It could be so nice !

• electricity is scarce and unreliable ;
• lush vegetation and rich natural resources are unexploited ;
• corrupt government and officers;
• people too poor afford being honest ;
• city is dirty and poorly maintained ;
• cant call home because the phones never work.

Guinea has great potential for tourism though. Maybe in 20 years, it will be a prime location. For now, it’s just enraging to see such potential go to waste because of poor governance.

Fly between countries and avoid crossing the boarder from Sierra Leone. Unless you want extreme delays.

My job will take me to Conakry for 6 weeks. I expect to buy some Ba Cissokho cd’s and discover the local food.

I hope I get to learn a bit of Fula !
