Ethiopia aka: Ityop'iya

i lived here for about a year cuz my gran lived there so it was a good place to be and it was good for shopping too and i loved their food and the smell of coffee even though i hate coffee so i didnt taste it and i was tutored a little on making Anjera i think that is how you spell it, i dont really know and i also picked up a few sentences which i have kind of forgoten now. the people are nice too and if you not in the capital, its got some great green mountains i dont remember what they were called. but when it rained then you were in hell but you get to adapt to it after a while and sometimes you lose a shoe or two in the mud and have a laugh about it after you get home and clean up.

Ethiopia is the place to be! Considering that the first humanbeing (Lucy) comes from Ethiopia. It’s absoultely gorgeous! The people are blessed, and the historical places are stunning. I feel right at home when I go there. It can be a spiritual, intellectual renewal of self.

I am trying to find a good detailed street map of Addis online. Any suggestions?

Also, how bad are the pickpockets?

We have an exchange student at our school this year that is from Addis Ababa. Even if I didn’t go for any other reason, I’d go to see him after he goes home this summer. He is awesome! haha anyway, It would be awesome to go and experience a culture completely different from my own.

I’ll have to go back one day. I only stopped in Addis briefly for a business trip, but I did get to play with monkeys :)

There is a trip to Ethiopia with the dance group that I went to Senegal with, but it’s way too much money. But I really want to go. It’s in August 2008….;-(

I’m an anthropology student, and while I want to focus on Near East Studies and archaeology, I would love to do some fieldwork here. I have an excellent professor who has lived there on and off for many years studying the people and their culture.

First time after Sudan!!! If it is the same for you, you will love it.. get a big fun at night and sleep the days long. Take a week to out of Adis… a great history and amazing places to seee…
