Antigua and Barbuda

we spent our honeymoon at the sandals resort on antigua…it was breathtaking. we sailed out to the beach on barbuda one afternoon and it was just perfect. we also got to take a helicopter from jolly harbor to the active volcano on monserat…i’d highly recommend traveling here to anyone!

There is nothing else like the beaches of Antigua..

Did not want to leave. Of course that is easy when you are staying a resort.

I stayed at the Royal Antiguan Beach and Tennis. They had the most amazing food there! There was a secluded beach with several very nice vendors (particularly Francine, the hair-braider) and you can take a very dangerous hike up a hill to an old fort. There was an old shipwreck not far out. I took a sunset horse ride on the beach (so scary!)

I lived here for two and a half years; it’s got great weather and some nice beaches, but not much else.

We visited here about 20 years ago. Some of the people we met back then have been our friends ever since.

you get a true sense of Island time and the local culture here. rent a car and drive from one tip of the island to the other tip in about 45 min., that’s how small it is! Fav. spots were coffee on the docks in English Bay Harbour, boating around Jolly Beach Harbour, snorkelling in Deep Bay, sunset at Shirley Heights, Half Moon Bay with it’s pink coral sand, strolling on the moonlit Dickenson Bay beach, and all the driving excursions through the jungle and discovering the vistas. We stayed at the Barrymore Beach Club near Dickenson Bay and McKinnon Salt pond (great bird and nature watching), and we recommend the place!

and is well worth the trip. easily accessible pirate wrecks are a big plus.

I was born and raised on this island, and like every local, I took its beauty for granted … now I miss it soo much !!! Lots to do here … be sure to visit English harbour, Falmouth harbour, Shirley’s Heights, the old sugar plantation houses, Figtree hill drive, Sailing week, Classic Regatta, Carnival (July), take in a game of Cricket, or any of the 365 beaches, my favorite is Rendezvous (you’ll have to hike into it)... dang … now I’m home sick again !!!
