Niagara Falls, Niagara County

So apparently the Falls is romantic and has become a traditional spot for marriage proposals. Whats so romantic about the deafening roar or water and being chilled to the bone by the cold spray?

Given, I’ve never been personally (hence it’s place on my list), I guess I just want to see what all the fuss is about. Note: the Taj Mahal also makes my list due to its renown as the most romantic spot in the world. [sigh]

Another note: I heard somewhere (most likely a TLC or Discovery special) that much of the water feeding the falls is diverted to hydro-electric plants and/or other outlets to supposedly lessen the effect of erosion on the rim. WTF?! Erosion is a natural occurrence and between the power plants and “erosion-control” the current flow rate of the Falls is only a quarter of what it was at the beginning of the century!!

Tahiti, Society Islands

The bf and I are planning a Tahitian vacation for this fall. Still researching places to stay/things to do. We know for sure that we want to scuba. He’s already PADI certified and I’m looking into getting certified stateside before we go.

We are also into getting off of the beaten path. We very much want to get to see some of the smaller, more remote islands. Any advice on great dive sites or other cool things to do?
