Kansas City, Missouri

Great Weekend in KC

My wife and I spent last Thursday through Sunday in KC and had a great time. We got a great discount at the Raphael Boutique Hotel at Country Club Plaza. So we did some shopping there, and also visited the Nelson Atkins Museum, which is very nice. The new wing is interesting, and of course the museum has one of the 3 giant Monet Water Lillies paintings. Then we ate dinner at the Power & Light district downtown. They were setting up for a free concert outdoors at KC Live.

The next day we went to the River Market area, and toured the Steamboat Arabia museum. Amazing amount of stuff from 1856 found on a sunken steamboat in the middle of a cornfield, that used to be part of the Missouri river. Saturday night we saw the Chiefs play their first pre-season game. It was raining, but fun anyway.

KC is one of my favorite cities to visit in the Summertime.

Along with the free Science Center, the free Art Museum, the free Grants Farm, the free Anheuser Busch Brewery tour, and the new free City Garden sculpture park downtown.

And of course the other usual attractions: Six Flags Amusement Park and Hurricane Harbor Water Park, Forest Park, the Fabulous Fox Theater, Ted Drewes, the MUNY, the Botanical Gardens, the Great River Road drive and ferry boats along the Mississippi River, Missouri wine country, 30 minutes west of St. Louis, and the U-City Loop entertainment district.

And of course there is always baseball or a trip to the top of the Gateway Arch.
