Dachau Concentration Camp

(in Germany > Bayern > Dachau)

Worth visiting!

Untitled

I went with my parents and stepbrothers to see Dachau when I was eleven. I still dream about it, and remember the smell lingering near the ovens. It’s been over 25 years since I’ve been there, and the memories still bring tears.

Beecher's Handmade Cheese

Worth visiting!

Untitled

Cheese to die for. You can buy it in the specialty section of some supermarkets, but it’s not nearly as fresh, so I run to the Market every chance I get to load up. Especially love the fresh curds. The best reason to break my diet. Ever.

Two Bells Tavern

Worth visiting!

Untitled

I used to go here for lunch all the time when I worked down on Westlake. The food is not your run-of-the-mill deep fried crappy bar food. The homemade soups, sandwiches and burgers are excellent. Plenty of choices for vegetarians too. Not a shabby wine collection either, as I recall.

Serafina

Worth visiting!

Untitled

Live jazz on the weekends, good bartender, excellent food, cozy atmosphere. This is one of my favorite Seattle restaurants ever.

Doc Maynard's

Not worth visiting!

Untitled

I loved this place in the early 90’s, but it totally sucks now.

Mont Saint Michel

Worth visiting!

Untitled

This is the most magical place I have ever been, and I can’t begin to explain. I still dream about it.

Kalispell

Worth visiting!

Untitled

I grew up in Kalispell, but a lot has changed. It certainly has grown. People who like the outdoors will love it most of all. It’s right near the gorgeous Glacier Park and the popular Big Mountain ski resort. Natives fish, hunt, ski, camp and hike. Don’t expect much of a night life, though.

Vancouver

Worth visiting!

Untitled

I love this place and always try to get there at least once a year. I have a regular itinerary that includes corned beef sandwiches at Kaplan’s Deli, martinis at Settebello, shopping on Robson, and blues at the Yale.

Musée Du Louvre

Worth visiting!

Untitled

My favorite thing about the Louvre was the Venus de Milo. I remember walking slowly around her many times with my mouth hanging open. She was stunning.

As for the rest of the museum, it was remarkable and I was disappointed that I didn’t have nearly enough time to spend there.

Oaxaca (State)

(in Mexico)

Worth visiting!

Untitled

I celebrated my 12th birthday in Oaxaca while a group from my church was down there working on building a school. The staff and students made that day the most memorable ever.

My favorite memories include the ruins at Monte Alban (I think that’s how it’s spelled), dickering at the market, and drinking sangria from a street vendor who told me it was grape soda.
