Ikea, Frisco

Swede in Texas

Despite being from Sweden I felt right at home in the Texas IKEA warehouse. The design of the building and the layout of the interior felt just like the IKEA warehouses at home. The only thing different was that the Texas warehouse offered more traditional Swedish edibles than local Swedish warehouses usually do.

Charlotte Douglas International Airport, Charlotte

Best airport I've seen

I’ve been to several airports (9-10) in different countries (4) and Charlotte Douglas International Airport is the best one yet. No matter how many downs I suffer during my travels, it all goes away as soon as I reach Charlotte.

The airport is easy to navigate with plenty of signs. Everything is located within the security check, so you have all the time in the world to explore the shops and restaurants, and you don’t need to hurry to the gate before it opens. Despite the massive amount of travellers there are always seats available. You can usually find a quiet and empty corner to relax, but since the entire airport is covered in carpet everything is fairly quiet anyway. There are rocking chairs in several places, and they have display cases with the history of flight and interesting minitatures of the building. The airport offers free wifi (courtesy of Google), and there are power outlets in several places near seats.

If I ever had to spend the rest of my life in an airport, Charlotte wouldn’t be a bad choice.

London, England

Low budget

I spent four days in this beautiful city with a friend of mine, and since we were both on a low budget we didn’t have a lot of choices of what to do. Coming home from the weekend we both realised we had done no standard touristing whatsoever.

We stayed at a cheap hostel near Paddington, and spent the days mostly walking. Getting lost too. I must say Hyde Park is a nice place to be in the summer!

The only tip I have is that if you’re traveling with Ryan Air (on the cheaper flights) make sure you know how to travel between the airport and the hostel, since the tube is closed night time. And the buses only accept coins. We almost missed our flight back home due to this mistake…
