Well like i said it’s worth visiting, but you don’t want to live here
over 6 years agoIt was impressive because it was so long. But actually it didn’t give me that feeling of awe. It had graffiti all over. Not spray paint – markings etched in the stone with knives. And it was tiring to walk up and down te steps. Probably it would be dangerous to climb the wall if it were wet. And it smells like urine. The bathrooms at the entrance…you have to pay, they’re squat toilets, and there’s no toilet paper.
How the hell will all those Westerners handle it when they come for the 2008 Olympics? No doubt many of them will go see the Great wall while they’re visiting Beijing.
Still worth going to. I saw it once and I’m never going beck again.
over 6 years agoFirst time there I was surprised at how much English was in use. You could not no a word of Chinese and make it through the airport. But on the streets it’s all mandarin in Beijing accents. My family makes fun of how the Beijingers speak mandirin.
Bei Hai Park is so beautiful in the rain.
The rest of Beijing is not so beautiful. People smoke in restaurants. Public bathrooms…ugh. Don’t go there. Crossing streets is dangerous. Even riding in a cab reminds me of a kiddie roller coaster. The Forbidden City is great, like an awesome museum but it’s all so fake.
Tourist sites all have constuction now on account of all the people who will be coming for the Olympics. Must impress the foreigners.
