A tip I have about this place
The hike up and back from the Cape is about 3 hrs. Pack a lunch and enjoy the view! If you score a sunny day, you can see New Brunswick from across the water.

Born and raised here in Halifax, I’ve been around the world and I still LOVE coming back to this city. Every year, it’s becoming more and more urban/cosmopolitan but it still retains the small-town feel. I love taking tourists and out-of-towners to the sights around the city. The summers are great, the downtown is easy to get around and the atmosphere is very laid back!

Prepare your whole day at the mall. It took us 3 hours just to walk around 90% of the mall without actually doing anything. Don’t forget to check out the flamingos =)

Don’t forget the Summerlicious and Winterlicious festivals that happens all over the city. Great fine dining 3-course meals at lunch and dinner for $10, $20, $30!!!

If you have Korean friends, the best and cheapest way to see this region is with a Korean tour. We spent a full day seeing all the sights and that included a trip to a jimjilbong (sauna). It’s one of the best ways to see the beautiful country!

If you don’t speak Korean, it’s best that you plan a bit ahead with a Korean friend or know ahead of time—nothing is catered to people who speak English. I arrived at the Jeju airport, thinking that there’d be SOMETHING that I could arrange through the Jeju tourist board but there was nothing. I was lucky enough to have a few korean tourists on the tour that i took that could speak a little English!

I lived in Seoul for over a year, teaching English, and it was the best and worst place to live. It took a while to get used to: the strange food, the fact that not many people speak English, the rushed way of living… but eventually, this city where I find it to be one of the safest in the world, where everyone respects elders and teachers, dresses “nice and conservative” (for the most part), great rates for accomo-food-transpo, has made me miss it now that i’m gone. I can’t wait until the next time i go back!!

This is such a great place to relax in the sun and take a break from the bus traveling.

Bring your money and your ideas on clothes you want to make…hehe. When my friend came back and told me about the seamstresses, etc, i cut out pics from magazines and of course, got lots of clothes made. the farther out you walk from the old city centre, the cheaper the prices are. Don’t forget to check out the cooking classes at one of the restaurants in the centre of the old town!

if you’re entering the foreigner quarters, make sure you go to several different tour agents before choosing one. they’ll all say that they’re in lonely planet or some travel guide but make sure you bargain!
