Norway

(in Europe)

Worth visiting!

I'm heading back to Norway on Friday!!

Been many years since I last was there, but this Friday I’m going there again. Going to spend a week in a small cabin next to a fjord and I plan on taking pictures until my camera falls apart and wander in the mountains until my legs lacks the energy to keep me going.

I’ll report back, with photos, when I’m back home! :)

Sarek

So, anyone got any thoughts about *when* one should

go to Sarek? Summer? Winter? Spring?

Are there any camping location inside Sarek or will you have to venture back out for sleep? How’s the wolf population? I got so many questions it’s not even funny. ;) Would love to go there and try to take some pictures of animals in the wild (I hope I got the patience for this) instead of going to Zoos like I’ve done so far.

Absolut Icebar Stockholm

Worth visiting!

A really cool place (pun intended)

Last summer I paid a visit to the Icebar with two friends of mine. It’s an all-year bar made out of ice, just like the famous Ice Hotel in the north (which is only there during the winters though). The bar is located in the middle of Stockholm and to keep it around during the summer it’s located in a specially constructed giant freezer (with windows! :D).

I highly recommend that you pay a visit if you ever pass through Stockholm and feel like a drink (from a glass made by nothing but ice!). If you want company, let me know a while in advance and I just might be able to come join you! :)

I hope this link will persist over time, otherwise, please let me know and I’ll dig up a working one!

Finland

(in Europe)
I can't believe I haven't been here yet!

I’ve lived in Sweden all my life and I haven’t been to Finland yet. I will hopefully remedy this during the upcoming summer!

Legoland

Worth visiting!

Perhaps not that nice for adults, but heaven for kids.

Went here when I was in middle school and I had a blast with my brother. If I go back now and happen to be in the area I might go back in just to look around because they had some amazing stuff built up by LEGO in there. And as we all know, LEGO is really cool. ;)

attached is a picture of a life-sized car from the Stockholm Bilsalong (auto show in Sweden)

Norway

(in Europe)

Worth visiting!

Incredible nature! Fjords!

Went here on vacation with my family several years ago. I can’t recall much details, but I do know it was quite spectacular. I’m going back this summer and I’m sure I’ll go here even more in the future.

Hultsfred

Worth visiting!

The Rock Festival here is awesome!

Not quite as big as Roskilde, but that also means you can get closer to the stages without getting crushed. ;) Hultsfred the rest of the year doesn’t have too much to see, but it’s a cozy little town where I grew up.

Also, if you are familiar with the works of Astrid Lindgren, this is very close to both Vimmerby and Lönneberga, two locations of interest to you then. :)

Ryd

Not worth visiting!

Worth it for students, not for others...

Ryd is a part of the city of Linköping. It’s very heavily populated by students (not neccesarily a bad thing), but unless you know one there isn’t really anything to do here. All the student parties and pubs normally require a student ID, or that you are a guest of someone with an ID, for admission.

So if you are or know a student it might be worth coming here for the parties, but for the general population I wouldn’t say this part of the city really holds anything of interest. Unless you want to visit friends or family here, of course.

Linköping

Worth visiting!

One of the best University cities in Sweden.

I’ve studied here for almost four years and as of writing this worked here for almost one year. Linköping is a nice city that got almost everything you could ever want without being so big it’s cumbersome to travel around in it. With stores focused around two places in town with good bus connections between them it’s easy to go shopping.

For those, like me, who enjoy motor sports we got a motor arena in the outskirts with both tarmac and dirt tracks where you can go to see racing events of different kinds or to just drive some gokart with your friends. A stone toss away lies Mantor with it’s famous track Mantorp Park (where the season finale of the STCC racing event) takes place.

If you ever feel the need to get to a larger city you can easily get to Stockholm in under two hours by train (90min with the faster one) or down to Malmö in less then three hours.

I highly recommend paying Linköping a visit if you get a chance, bringing friends is always a good suggestion. We might not have incredible amounts of “must see” places here, but there is plenty of stuff to do without haivng to spend half a day traveling to get there. :)
