Fargo

Worth visiting!

Visited there for Thanksgiving once upon a time...

Despite the fact that I drove there, overnight from Colorado, during major snowstorms, with a soon to be ex boyfriend to visit his family for Thanksgiving… I liked the place. People were nice. His family was fun. Popped over the state line to Minnesota (State motto: Land of 10,000 lakes) to see their family lake cabin.
VERY different from the East Coast. It was nice to have a change of scenery.

Outer Banks

Worth visiting!

So very, very relaxing...

I’ve been going down to the Outer Banks for quite a while. Stayed mostly in Nags Head.

I recommend, while you can still find them, the old Nags Head style cottages without the bells and whistles (Cable, etc…). On the beach… Wake up when your body tells you to. First person up puts on a pot of coffee. Maybe go out to the deck to watch the ocean while sipping your coffee. Breathe deeply. Then a short walk on the beach to find some shells. Check back in at the cottage to see if anyone else is up and maybe take your beach bike for a quick ride around before the day gets too warm. Make a light lunch and enjoy it with a cold beer. Pick up some seafood for dinner or maybe check out the thrift and antique stores. Walk outside and down to the beach for some rays and listen, really listen to the ocean. Slip back up to the cottage to take a shower on the deck in the outside shower (There is something about showering outside…) and then in for a glass of wine and back outside to watch the evening fall across the ocean.
Best when mixed with that special someone or your best group of friends.

London

The Irreverent Guide to London

I found a travel book put out by Frommer’s at a local thrift store and am currently busy perusing the contents. The book is titled The Irreverent Guide to London.
Looks to be pretty cool so far….
Must get intel for my trip to London this year (Fingers crossed)!!!

New York City

Worth visiting!

Ahhh.... New York, New York

My sister and I took a bus trip up from Maryland in December of 2004. We bought an all day subway pass, but mostly hoofed it around the city. When we got too chilly, we went down and rode the subway to get warm. We explored Battery Park, visited ground zero, walked through Little Italy and Chinatown. We stoped in at random little shops and sipped chai tea for warmth.
People were very friendly and any time we got lost (that would be several times) people were very helpful in directing us to our targeted destination.
It’s a lot to take in for a one day trip, so we plan on going back someday, but alas, have yet to find the time.

Destin

Worth visiting!

Still relatively undiscovered

The beaches rival those on the Mayan Riviera. When in season (Months with a “r” in them) there are the best fresh Appalachicola oysters on the halfshell and when washed down with a cold beer… Mmmm! When I visit my parents, the very first place they take me is Pompano Joe’s… Right on the beach which is great when the weather is nice, but they got whacked with the last hurricane in 2005. It undercut the parking lot there, so you now have to park alongside the road and hoof it to the place. A lot of the beach was lost, but I hear there might be some sort of dredging project to build the beaches back up.

Colorado

Worth visiting!

Beautiful place to live

When I first moved to Colorado, I lived up in the Silverthorne/Dillon area right next to Keystone Ski Resort. I had a great year there, but wanted to move down to Denver, because the winters were a little too much. Heck, it even snowed briefly on the forth of July while I was there.

Denver is a beautiful city that is very easy to get around in. The social scene is great and there is always something fun to do. There is a decent music scene and it was fun to check out new bands or see established bands play at one or another of the wonderful old theatres that have been converted to music venues.

From Denver you can take daytrips to Colorado Springs, Manitou Springs, Red Rocks Ampitheatre (Famously shown in the U2 video of long ago), Breckenridge, South Park, Vail and so many other cool places.

I would still be living there if it were closer to a coastline. But alas, it is very landlocked.

Maryland

Worth visiting!

Baltimore

The mythical city of hairspray and “Hon.” Lots to do and see.

Mexico

Worth visiting!

Playa del Carmen

I travelled to Playa del Carmen twice in 2005. Both times by myself because I was tired of waiting for other people to be able to go with me. I stayed at a small 12 room hotel, Posada Freud, and met many wonderful people there. When you walk down La Quinta you hear so many languages around you. It seems so very international. You can do as much or as little as you want. The beaches are absolutely heavenly. The sand is like powdered sugar and the water is a crystal clear aquamarine. Deciding on where to eat was the hardest decision of the day. I would recommend Playa to anyone.
