Lowry Park Zoo

Worth visiting!

A review of this place

The first time I visited Lowry was last week. I was amazed at how clean it was, given the conditions of the surrounding neughbourhood. There are plenty of animals to see, and much for the little ones to interact with so it is quite a family friendly place – as most zoos are.

Because it was the off-season(I assume) many of the food stands were closed so it was tough finding a place to sit down and eat during lunch. We did find an eatery with reasonable pricing and delicious food, not far from the stingray pools.

I got to feed crackers to a giraffe. It costs a couple dollars, so just go for broke and buy three at a time, it’s a little cheaper. Children and adults alike seemed to really enjoy treating Borris to a midday snack, but don’t try to pet him!(you get yelled at)

Parking was free, which I’m not used to. Entrance was free as well. Lowry has a huge list of reciprocal zoos, so if you have a membership to your local zoo, see if Lowry will accept it.

Wisconsin

Worth visiting!

A review of this place

I was born and raised in WI and despite many attempts to run away to other states, I know in my mind that I couldn’t bear to stay away if I tried. I love the dramatic and diverse weather, and the natural history of the state is just awesome. I travel around the state a lot and I can honestly say that each town is different. Be it charming or arrogant, farm or city, every town is a destination in itself and generally has some interesting history behind it if you take the time to stop and talk to the locals.

Interesting place to stop through. Also one of the hardest cities for non-locals to spell or pronounce ;)

West Allis

Worth visiting!

A tip I have about this place

Born here and never ventured too far away. The city itself isn’t much of an attraction, but the State Fair and myriad of other events held at the fairgrounds are worth the drive. Also, the Petit center(ice skating/hockey) is a great way to burn off some calories on a hot summer day.

Miller Park

Worth visiting!

A tip I have about this place

Even if you can’t make it to an actual game, the park is generally open to wander through during the day. Tours are also available. I don’t live far away so I stop in whenever I’m bored. The place is just amazing, especially given it’s somewhat tainted past.

Green Bay

Worth visiting!

Untitled

I used to live here. Unless you enjoy talking football 24/7 and going bowling, there is nothing to do. Green Bay can be a beautiful city to see during spring and fall as long as you drive along the bay and stay on the outskirts. IMHO, drive north for about an hour and visit some of the national parks. Those are definately worth the drive.

Museum Of Science And Industry

Worth visiting!

A review of this place: Love it!

I really love this place because of all the fascinating exhibits. I try to visit at least once a year when a particularly interesting travelling exhibit rolls on through. It has a little something for everyone and I almost always come across facts that I didn’t know. Children will more than likely enjoy the S&I Museum over the Field Museum, and probably get more out of the visit as well.

O'Hare International Airport

Not worth visiting!

A review of this place: It's just an Airport

I’ve been through here several times and really, it’s just a decent airport and not a destination to hang around in. I’ve been in more interesting terminals in other states.

Field Museum Of Natural History

Worth visiting!

A tip I have about this place

To get more out of your experience, plan ahead! Try to pick out specific things you’d like to see ahead of time.

The museum itself is gigantic and packed full of exhibits to the point where you can spend an entire day and still not see everything it has to offer. As a result, you or someone in your party may get quite bored of staring at particular subjects.

For example, I planned on making a stop at both Shedd Aquarium and the Museum on one trip a few years ago. Since I couldn’t possibly enjoy the entirity of both attractions in one day I planned out specific things to satisfy my tastes. Seahorse exhibit at the aquarium, and dinosaurs and the lions (from the story Ghost in the Darkness) at the museum. This way I had four hours to wander around at each location after spending as much time as I wanted at my desired exhibit.

Because of my home location I am able to visit Chicago whenever I feel like it, giving me any and all opportunities to go back if I missed something. Not everyone has this luxury which is why I suggest trying to plan a schedule :)

Sears Tower

Worth visiting!

A tip I have about this place

It’s expensive, about $12 per person for a trip to the top. There isn’t much to do when you get there but the views are amazing. Also, find a side street or structure to park in. The Tower parking is crazy expensive and I think it’s better to pay five bucks and walk a few blocks than to pay twenty and climb a few steps.
