It is worth visiting to get yourself oout to the grasslands to ride horses and stay in a yurt.
Not so much else here…the hidden treasures are out of the capital.

I really liked Skagway. It still keeps it’s mining town look about it. I did the train excursion up the mountain.
The best thing I did here was a helicopter ride to one of the glaciers where I went dog sledding. It was fantastic. I got to hold a 2 weekd old puppy. It isn’t cheap but it is one of the most unbelievable advetures I have ever done.
of course, nothing completes a good day like a couple of pints of beer at one of the local pubs.
Enjoy!

Alaska is absolutely beautiful. I travelled here on a 90 000 tonne cruise liner where I worked. I only did 2 cruises, but it was wonderful.
If you get the chance…go.
Take a cruise going up the inside passage.
Just get out there!

As my friends live in Varna, this is where I headed. I got the bus from Sofia to Varna. Got a night bus. Get your ticket early in the day, you don’t want to be stuck up the back. I spent the entire night holding on for dear life on bumpy roads. I think it was about 22 BL to get there. Buses to Varna leave from the main terminal. You can buy a return from the bus station in Sofia or get a ticket from the Black Sea Hotel in Varna. There is a small bus/travel agency there.
When you get there and you need a taxi, make them put it on the meter. I have an advantage, I can speak a bit of BG, so can make do.
I stayed at the Trite Delfina in ul. Gabrovo. Good hotel nice rooms with private bathroom. BG price is around $23 a night. Close to the sea garden and main walking street.
Cheap internet everywhere on the main walking street for about $1 an hour.
I spent most of my time at the sea garden in a bar called ZAZA. My friend owns it. I liked it… he also owns the Martini Bar up near the cathedral.
From here you can take trips to Balchik, Albena, and Golden Sands. All nice, but I prefer Varna.
I felt completely safe here at night, be it walking around or getting taxis. It is a top town. I love it and will go back.

My experience in Bulgaria was only 2 weeks long. I loved it. I have many friends there from working on the ships. I went to Macedonia from here too. More about this below.
As my friends live in Varna, this is where I headed. I got the bus from Sofia to Varna. Got a night bus. Get your ticket early in the day, you don’t want to be stuck up the back. I think it was about 22 BL to get there. Cheap. Buses to Varna leave from the main terminal. I went with ETAP.
I also got the bus to Skopje. The taxi stand in the aiport will try to tell you that the buses aren’t running purely to get you to get a cab to the border. DON”T. Just get the cab to the bus station and you will find the busses are running. Think I paid around $18 return to Skopje. Around 5 hours I think. after you have got your ticket in the main bus station you have to go over to the other bus station across the way.
Don’t change money in the aiport for leva. RIP OFF
The casino across from the bus station has an ok rate and I liked playing there too.
The bus station has reasonably priced snacks and drinks. I didn’t stay in Sofia, just used it as a base for getting my transport.
My experience in this country has inspired me to want to return and explore some other places this great country has to offer.
