Hatfield
Worth visiting!
growing up — 1 year ago
Hatfield is where i grew up. I was 7 when we had to move here. Initially we hated it as it was all so new back in the early 60s. We had moved from a village and us 3 kids didn’t want to leave our idyllic setting. My parents came here for work and so,Hatfield became home. It was hard to begin with. In those days, if you had a foreign-sounding name (I guess it was the same all over England back then)the kids gave you a hard time. Somehow, we weathered the storm and even made a few friends. I did a stint selling the Evening Standard outside Hatfield railway station – brrrr! cold evenings a lot of the time. I remember going to the markets well, with my mum and the library. We lived on the “wrong side of the tracks”, the poorer side of town. That’s ok. It helped to form us kids as to the people we are today. Used to love going to Stanborough swimming pool and walking in the grounds of Hatfield park. What can one say. Hatfield was a part of my growing up years and I’d love to go back one day and have a good look around.
