Guatemala, Central America And The Caribbean
Okay, so it's a little dangerous, but...
I travelled across Guatemala over the course of a summer in 1994, doing charity work as English-Spanish translator with a team of doctors visiting small villages. At one point I had time off and climbed a mountain stream for several miles up into the mountains. We rode horses or used mules to get up into remote areas, wherever the buses couldn’t reach. Thankfully it was the dry season, so mudslides were not much of a worry. Anyway, the historical sites are amazing and the people are friendly. I wound up with many interesting stories and mini-adventures that I’ll never forget.
