Kruševac

(in Serbia)
A town of rich tradition

Kruševac, a town of rich tradition and several centuries long history, is situated in the central part of Serbia.

King Lazar started building it around 1374.

There are 2 legends concerning the name of the town. According to one, it was named after the many pear trees (‘kruška’), that were abundant in these regions. According to the other, the name came from the kind of stone called ‘krušac’, which was taken out of the river and used for the building of the medieval town.

Zlatibor

(in Serbia)

Worth visiting!

Why I recommend this place to visitors

Zlatibor is a beautiful mountain in the heart of Serbia, in its very central part. It’s the place where your eyes can take a rest and your body can be filled with energy!

And the climate is very special here. The ‘rose of the winds’ is exactly above Zlatibor, making summers hot and winters mild.

Zlatibor is rich in vegetation and woods. It’s also the only place where you can admire the free flight of whiteheaded sups (vultures) that are almost entirely exterminated in other regions.

Zrenjanin

A tip I have about this place

Explore the world of birds and waterlilies, the area of swamps, meadows and forests, in Carska Bara, a special natural reservation situated in middle Banat, southwest from Zrenjanin, between the rivers Tisa and Begej.

Zrenjanin

The origin of the name

Zrenjanin is the biggest town in Banat, the 3rd biggest in Vojvodina and the 8th biggest in Serbia.

It changed its name several times during its 7-century-long history.

It was 1st mentioned at the beginning of the 14th century as Bechkerek. The name remained until 1935, when it got the name Petrovgrad, after King Petar I Karadjordjevic (1844-1921). But that name didn’t last long. After WWII the town got its present name – Zrenjanin, after the revolutionary Žarko Zrenjanin (1902-1942).
