Cherry Grove

Worth visiting!

One of the first openly gay places in modern times  — 1 year ago

Cherry Grove has a gay history from before the turn of the 20th century. Great mix of people. It’s about 90% gay, both residents and visitors. Older, younger, rich and not so rich, black, brown, white and everything else. Also a more welcoming and accepting place than it’s neighbor to the East, Fire Island Pines. If you are up for some fun, and maybe a little action in the unpatrolled forest between the two towns, then GO!. Season is usually only May 1 ish to Oct 15 ish, But there are sometimes exceptions.

Fire Island

Worth visiting!

It's magic  — 1 year ago

One of the best beaches on Earth. About 30 communities but the most notorious (and beautiful) are the predominately gay communities of Fire Island Pines and Cherry Grove.

Alphabet City

Worth visiting!

A review of this place: Raised by Wolves in Alphabet City  — 1 year ago

I moved to 10th Street bet A & B in 1983. Loved it immediately, Bombed out buildings everywhere. Junkies, the mentally ill and other shady characters. But a great vitality and spirit among the lon-time residents as well as the newcomers. My favorite place was the Pyramid club which is still there and operating (albeit not at the artistic height of the 80s and 90s). I owned the Limbo Lounge, which was on 10th bet A & B and then later at 9th Street bet B & C.

I’ll add some more when I get a moment.

Go there!
