Pizza with corn kernels at the frequent kebab stands. Melange coffee served with sugarcubes and a glass of stillwater on a silver tray. Tequila shots with cinnamon and orange slices in the Bermuda Triangle . . .

I ate apfelstrudel every day for the seven days I was in Vienna. And I still miss it.

I attended Bryn Mawr College, outside of Philadelphia, from 1996 through 2000. Situated in the suburbs known as the Main Line – think Katharine Hepburn and The Philadelphia Story – this place made me believe that its where “the women are women, and the men are nervous.”
