Scottsdale, Arizona

Good food, sun and golf...

We’ve been there a couple times. People complain that it’s hot and, well, it is. But if you’re going you are usually going to enjoy activities that don’t involve a lot of exertion in the afternoon heat.

Two things that I would highly recommend: the spa at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess and the Old Scottsdale Tortilla Factory. Have the chile verde. It’s hot but it’s really outstanding.

Miami, Florida

It was nice...

…but I didn’t find it too different from most other sunny beach locales. We went right after New Years, 2003 for the Iowa/USC Orange Bowl. The carribean/cuban food was outstanding, and the weather was a bit humid but beautifully sunny (especially compared to Iowa in January). I understand that for the club crowd it’s the place to be but I’m not one of those people.

Still, it was nice to be in the sun and sand, see the ocean and relax. I’d go back.

The picture is of my wife from the balcony of our room at the Fontainebleau in Miami Beach.

Walt Disney World, Lake Buena Vista

I've been four times now...

And each was measurably different. I went once in high school, once right after I was married and twice since. The last three trips were interesting because I have a feeling that Disney World is different for just adults than it is for children. We didn’t go to the parks every day. Sometimes we sat by the pool and enjoyed the sun and went to the bars at night. When we did go to the parks we intentionally chose never to wait more than 30 minutes for a ride so the lines never bothered us. I also really enjoyed the fact that, while the beer and wine is expensive in EPCOT, you can walk around the park with alcohol!

The experience was enjoyable as an adult couple. Now that our son is born, I’m interested to go back in a few years and experience it all over again as a parent.
