Stanley, Hong Kong Island

chotchkes by Audrey

If you’re interested in buying a lot of tourist souvenirs, this is the place to go. It’s a cute market with endless shops containing the standard shot glasses, keychains, t-shirts, but also a wealth of “authentic” chinese chotchkes.

There are also several popular western-style cafes and restaurants.

Ocean Terminal, Tsim Sha Tsui

Shop til you drop by Audrey

Next to the Star Ferry Terminal steps and escalators lead up into one of a modern three-storey terminal building, part of the mammoth two million square feet Harbour City shopping complex. This is Hong Kong’s biggest shopping mall, featuring more than 700 shops and food & beverage outlets, cinemas and hotels. While most shops are exclusive boutiques that sell fashion or shoes or jewellery (mostly the upmarket variety), shops with traditional Chinese herbs and medicines can also be found. The Ocean Terminal is interconnected with the Ocean Centre and Harbour City, which offer more of the same and together take up almost the whole western waterfront of Tsim Sha Tsui.

Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong

The "Star" Ferry by Audrey

I definitely recommend taking the ferry across the harbour at least once. We took the Star Ferry, which runs every 10 minutes, several times to get from Central to Tsim Sha Tsui. We also took a smaller ferry to Lamma Island, although I was disappointed that we were in a closed windowed cabin because the views were amazing.

Victoria Peak, Hong Kong Island

Amazing restuarants by Audrey

We visited the peak during the day and at night while in Hong Kong. Daytime was super hot (August), but the view was clear and spectacular — fabulous photos. A bit crowded, but we only stayed long enough for lunch at a Thai-fusion restaurant, photos, and a short walk through the park. At night, we went to The Peak Lookout which boasts a beautiful setting with both indoor and outdoor seating with a panoramic view of Aberdeen. Unfortunately, during the car ride up to the peak I, without fail, experience the worst carsickness ever. It really effected my enjoyment of the visit and more importantly, the wonderful food. Next time I’ll definitely just take the Peak Tram.

Many of museums in the territory are located in the area. It is depicted as a cultural centre. We visited the Hong Kong Museum of Art featuring exhibits such as The World of the Etruscans and Hair Dialogue (Installation Art Exhibition).
