Coney Island

Worth visiting!

The first time I went to this place

I’d never made it to Coney Island in the three and a half years I lived on the east coast, so when I went back to NYC for a few days in September, I decided to make it happen.

The season was over, so the entire part was completely deserted—except for the few people working on the rides. The boardwalk, on the other hand, was packed.

While I’m sure the rides would have been fun to see, I’m actually glad I went when everything was deserted—it makes it a little more real, if that makes sense. A bit creepy, more than a bit run-down, it felt like I’d stepped back in time.

Well worth the train from Manhattan.

Bowery Ballroom

Worth visiting!

The first time I went to this place

Ours played an amazing show here in September of 2008. I’d impulsively bought a ticket and flew in from Chicago to go. I’d never done that before - just picked up and flown somewhere for a concert - and this was a place I’d always heard about.

Bottom line? Amazing. Worth every penny. Beautiful sound, beautiful space, and fairly-priced drinks for Manhattan.

Could be worth visiting solely because of the company, however. A nice town to wander around aimlessly… lots of colored garages.

Windermere

Worth visiting!

A tip I have about this place

If you’re taking the train and don’t have a place to stay, go to the information center just east of the train! They will call any place you want and find you a wonderful rate. You have to pay a 10% of the room fee to them, but it’s a small price for the ease…

This is coming from a girl who had, until then, gotten off of a train and looked for a B&B. Windermere is too touristy-trendy to have B&B’s advertising that they’re open, even in the middle of the week.

Beautiful! I walked through while it was misting, and it was one of the most peaceful moments I had in London proper. A gorgeous and spacious park, full of dog walkers and joggers, and a little gallery space. I also saw a couple fall off of their motorbike on the north end of it, but that’s not quite as… uh… good.

The Tower Of London

Worth visiting!

Worth visiting even if, as an American, you pay $33… I went on my birthday with a boy I had [had? have…] a major [one-sided] crush on. Nothing says romance and happy birthday like torture and death, right?

A very awesome place, though. Maybe not as great as other places in London since you have to pay so much [and the museums are, uh, free…], but the history here… brilliant.

York

Worth visiting!

A review of this place

I went here purely on a whim. I woke up on a Sunday in London and thought, “Fuck this, I’m going to get away. Where to? York sounds nice…” And so it was.

This place is a beautiful mix of old and college town. The wall that runs through the town is beautiful [if not annoyingly populated], the cemetery on Cemetery Road is gorgeous, and the B&B’s are plentiful. Cobblestone streets, brick and stone everywhere… it’s all so beautiful and perfect.

This picture is in the Gardens. I don’t remember what Gardens, but they were some major Gardens [near the art museum].

If you like cheese, go to the factory. Yummy samples (though a bit of a stomach-turning smell in the tour…).

Apparently, my first memory is of this place. I’ve always wanted to go back to see if my memory is accurate or if it’s the result of some three year old messing things up in her head. : )

Only been for Ours (multiple times), so I don’t know the usual crowd, but the sound is great and the drinks fairly cheap. Sells out quickly on the night of the show, though. Be warned.
