Finland

(in Europe)
Yes, I Know

That Scandinavia is not a part of Finland, but rather that Finland is a part of Scandinavia, however I would like to see multiple Scandinavian territories and happen to have a special fancy for Finland particularly ergo my having created this category within Finland’s country page lol.

I am also going to include the United Kingdom in this one. Obviously the UK is not a part of Scandinavia but I am really trying to consolidate my groups a little bit and I may as well put those two together =)

Mediterranean Sea

Already Been

I’ve actually already been to and seen the Mediterranean on multiple occasions. Which makes sense seeing as I currently live in Aix-en-Provence in France. But I’m actually using this category to say that I would like to visit a variety of Mediterranean countries (i.e. Italy, Greece) and also, since Portugal doesn’t fit into another category, I’m counting it as a Mediterranean country =)

The Spanish-Speaking World

(in Peru)
Sounding Good

I love foreign languages (especially Romance languages) as a general rule, but I have a soft spot for Spanish because it was my second language. It really opened my eyes to a whole new world. I would love to speak Spanish better and visit a variety of Spanish-speaking countries at some point =)

I always had a thing about going to Ecuador because of the Galapagos Islands but if I do that, I think I’m going to have to wait for awhile. I know this is stupid but when I think of Ecuador now, I think of Katrina. And I really wish I didn’t. I don’t want to ever think about her. I wish she wasn’t trying to be friends with Donald; why can’t his ex stay in his past?

Anyway, there are a few countries I would love to visit. Peru. Costa Rica. Spain! Mexico. Argentina. Guatemala. Ecuador eventually someday. Chile. Etc.

So yeah, that’s this group =)

Iron Curtain Countries

(in Russia)
Another One

I know, I know, people probably hate how I’m organizing my places site, but it makes much more sense to me this way, I promise. And I’m not trying to mess up anyone else’s way of doing anything!

In any case, I am including Eastern European countries in the Iron Curtain countries as a whole. I don’t really remember where the Iron Curtain boundaries were drawn (obviously I should have paid more attention in history class! Lol) but I would love to see a few of them at some time in my life. Poland and Russia especially have always fascinated me.

All Fifty States

Worth visiting!

Neither Is This...

Alright, so All Fifty States isn’t exactly in California, however here is my train of thought. I would like to visit all fifty states, which I will update about from time to time. But saying so much is not an option. And I live in California so I thought I’d just stick it there and then work out the other stuff later. So here it is.

Africa

(in )
I Confess

That the African continent is not within Madagascar. I did not, however, want to select the various countries and cities within Africa that I would like to visit, because my knowledge of them is very superficial. It comes predominantly from books and a very few personal accounts of friends or family or complete strangers. I figure it isn’t really fair to select places until I get there and start poking around and realizing that the places that strike my interest and my fancy are the ones I hear about while I’m there and not necessarily the ones I’ve heard about elsewhere. The only reason I am creating this category within the Madagascar is because I would like to go to Madagascar at some point.

And Mauritious. And the Mayotte Islands. And Kenya. And Egypt. And Ghana. And Senegal. And South Africa. Etc. But I digress!

It would be much simpler if you were allowed to select a continent to visit here insted of only countries and cities and smaller units.

In any case, I have been fascinated with Africa’s cultural development and historical anthropology since I was about eight years old. I have written kazillions of reports on various countries, cultural trends, subcultures, news articles, books relative to the location, etc. And ever since my first books-about-Africa-only library binge, I have been enamored of the continent. Everything about it just sparks my imagination.

Recently I have been looking at post-university volunteer opportunities. I have considered several organizations, independent and government alike, and have been researching the variety of choices out there. I know that what I’m talking about doing is years away but it never hurts to give it ample consideration in advance! And it is a nice dream, going to where I have always wanted to go and helping people in fashion I have always wanted to help. Although, obviously, I would need to take Donald and our future into account as well. I will pick my future with him and volunteering at home and visiting Africa over the other one, unless he wanted to come along as well lol.

I can feel the train of thought leaving the tracks. In any case, the point is that I have been considering the opportunities and there is a fabulous one in Ghana. Six months, approximately $1600 plus travel expenses, all living expenses paid, teaching kids there English and French. Sounds perfect to me =) It would really be outside of my cultural box, so hopefully I’d go into it with an open mind, if I did it. As this is all hypothetical. And obviously Ghana isn’t every place in Africa, but it is a start, and I would have a break with which to travel to other places such as Kenya and Madagascar and Egypt and the like.

So I’m just turning the idea over in my head…=)
