i was sent to portland to assist in teaching a leadership development course for the unitarian universalist association. it was fun, they paid my way including plane tickets, i got paid by the church, then i got to hang out in portland. all i remember is the ridiculously awesome record store and super clean downtown, but this was 5 years ago.

i went to wilde lake high school for the three months i lived in columbia. spent a lot of time walking from village to village, was friends with danny from mop attack and learned how to shoplift at the mall. wilde lake gave away free tickets to see no doubt and the black eyed peas at the stadium and it rained. i remember this girl from my science class named liz mud wrasslin everyone. then i moved far far away to evil mississippi and now i’m still in the south, just one state over.

this campus is beautiful. there’s this awesome hill that over looks the beginning of midtown. it’s fantastic at night, i fully recommend being drunk there as it’s a drinking campus, and tripping there as well because of all the old buildings, the 24 hour chapel, the golf course, and the jesuit cemetary.

if you drive through semmes into wilmer, you’ll find the mobile zoo, which is awesome.

depressing as hell. i went here on martin luther king jr. day, and there is shit all going on. nothing. no parades, no posters, no information, no civic events whatsoever. this town is so rediculously gentrified and poor. it’s disgusting. we ate at a diner in the downtown area and the workers all told us they couldn’t afford to move away. super corrupt politicians, zero economy, zero jobs. go there for the history, and you’ll find a ghost town.

my friends and i have been filming an independant movie, part of which took place outside of an abandoned armory in prichard.
as the sun set, we were told by the police to leave if we valued our possessions and health.

mobile sucks. downtown is gentrified, comprising mainly of shitty clubs for frat kids. west mobile is expanding it’s already massive suburban structure further which is sucking the life out of down town and midtown. more wal-marts are being added, the city is widening the roads, there aren’t any sidewalks, public transportation is so sporadic it’s as good as non-existant, airport road is a death trap, traffic is gridlock. there is zero community oriented planning pertaining to infrastructure, architecture and designing for expansion. the cops are racist, social resources are but mere ghosts of a true metropolitan area, and the city politicians are corrupt as all get out.
