I grew up for quite a few years in Oroville. I wouldn’t say that Oroville itself is worth visiting. I would say check out the downtown stores, especially The Underground and the Bakery one block up the street.
However weird the town may be, the lake is wonderful. Huge enough to live on and probably not see all there is to see in a lifetime of looking.
The forests nearby are amazing, the river is super cold and refreshing.
Living in the South as I do now, it’s the mountains, lakes and rivers (cold and without alligators) that I miss the most.

Tiny little town. Great chinese food, friendly people. A wonderful lake. Beautiful swamps. Wildlife areas, boating, swimming in the rivers. Defintely worth a visit if you like wildlife and small towns.
