Clifton-edgewater, Cleveland

Wonderful neighborhood

I used to live here. There’s a lovely coffee shop on W.110th and Clifton called Truffles, the beach is just a short walk away, the apartments and homes lining Lake Avenue are lovely and inexpensive. Public transportation is abundant and access to the Shoreway is instantaneous. If you’re moving to Cleveland, definitely consider it. People might tell you the East Side is “where it’s at”, but Edgewater is a lovely (and less expensive) alternative.

The Edgewater neighborhood is roughly bordered to the West by W.117th, to the East by Edgewater State Park, to the South (approximately) by Detroit Road, and to the North by Lake Erie.

Young's Jersey Dairy, Yellow Springs

Untitled

Everyone should be required to go to Young’s!

Go to the restaurant. Before your meal they give you homemade sweet potato bread with cinnamon honey butter, homemade applesauce, and homemade coleslaw. The milk is not pasteurized and it tastes wonderful (the cows are literally just yards away, so it’s extremely fresh). The ice cream is fantastic…last time I got lemon custard. Mmm! There’s also mini golf, tractors for the kids to climb on, and a petting barn. Nearby on Route 68 is the beautiful little village of Yellow Springs, home to Glen Helen nature preserve and Antioch College.

If you’re going to stay nearby I recommend the Hearthstone Inn in nearby Cedarville. I stayed there when it first opened and the owners were wonderful and helpful.

Also, if you’re in the area at Christmas, you should go to Clifton Mill, where they have a huge light display, a barn full of hundreds of antique Santas (it’s so popular you actually have to stand in line to get in), and hot chocolate and other tasty things.

Mongolia, Asia

Untitled

I have a distant-in-the-future daydream about wanting to join the peace corps and go here. this is sort of a far out goal, being that I’ve come off a career that really burned me out from working with people. probably i’ll have something to give someday, so maybe in ten or more years. i just think mongolia is terribly interesting.
