My husband and I went to New Orleans back in 1996. Our friend Jaya was getting her master’s at Tulane and we went to pick her up at the end of the semester and help her drive back up to Northern Virginia. She lived in the French Quarter, and it was so awesome that we got to stay there. We did all the touristy things – went to Cafe du Monde, ate beignets, ate at as many great restaurants as we could, went on a swamp tour, ate alligator, went to the House of Blues, saw some gorgeous mansions… New Orleans was such a unique and enthralling place. I am so glad we got to go, and so sad that a lot of that is now gone.
