New York City, New York State

Untitled

Was just 2 weeks ago. I’d wanted to go for a long time, but never got the chance until now.

All I can say is, what a city. NYC is huge, in all 3 dimensions. And, right now, it’s also extremely prosperous — it’s amazing how much walking you can do and not see any signs of serious urban decay.

The biggest surprise had to be the number of people I heard speaking French. There had to be thousands (if not tens of thousands) of French and/or French Canadian tourists there that weekend. I heard French just about everywhere I went. And plenty of Spanish, Italian, and German as well, as well as English spoken with an English accent. Of course, with the dollar so weak, it shouldn’t surprise anybody that the Europeans are making the trip across The Pond. I’d be over there if the situation were reversed.

Anyway, I don’t think many of the European tourists were disappointed, and neither was I — the weather was great, and the City was/is amazing.

Italy, Europe

Took a bus tour.

I took a bus tour that hit most of the major tourist areas. It was a load of fun and got to see a lot of things that I’d only seen in books. If anything the biggest problem was that we tried to see too much in too little time. Still, versus not seeing Italy at all, the choice is obvious.
