Aosta

Worth visiting!

Untitled

Aosta is an old Roman town in Northern Italy close to the French and Swiss borders. It doesn’t offer anything “to do” as such, but the town itself certainly has a pleasant family atmosphere and with many Roman ruins still present around the area it can be nice just wondering around. It’s considerably cheaper than much of the rest of North Italy, and is definitely less touristy and cheaper. A well recommended visit for a taste of quieter local life.

Geneva

Not worth visiting!

Expensive

GenevĂ© is an extremely expensive city. Filled mostly with businessmen it doesn’t have much to offer to visitors – although the city itself is pleasant and, particularly in summer, can be quite vibrant. To experience the lake, if that’s your aim of the visit, you might want to consider also the quieter towns of Montreux or Lausanne.

Slovenia

Worth visiting!

Small, but sweet

A small but pleasant country, with some beautiful architecture and friendly people. Not as vibrant as some other Eastern European nations perhaps (with cities such as Prague in the Czech Republic), but Slovenia has a nice relaxed atmosphere and, if not going there exclusively, is definitely worth a visit if you happen to be in the vacinity.

Tower Bridge

Worth visiting!

Untitled

It’s free (the bridge itself is anyway), so what the heck – it’s prettier in my opinion than London Bridge, and the Tower of London (right next to Tower Bridge) is definitely well worth a visit. So come with a camera, and at least get that obligatory photo.

Hong Kong Disneyland Park

Not worth visiting!

A bit small...

This new addition to the Disneyland family is unfortunately a bit small and is not entirely finished. With new attractions still being built, it is currently less than half the size of its larger siblings in the US or Japan. If you want the true Disneyland experience, i’d suggest you go there instead.

Switzerland

Worth visiting!

French areas & Zurich

Breathtaking scenery, and culturally interesting with three (well, four) spoken languages in different administrative regions. Switzerland is a showcase of impeccable efficiency and shows how a well oiled system… just works.

There’s not that much to actually do, but if passing by or in want of some good ski slopes and beautiful scenery, it’s well worth a visit.

Malaysia

Worth visiting!

West Malaysia

Malaysia is definitely a worthwhile visit – from sandy beaches to snow capped mountains in the East, it’s got everything to offer. A great variety of food, great variety of cultures… and also pleasant scenically.

Malaysia is, as their advertising slogan says, “truly Asia”

Frankfurt

Not much to see in Frankfurt…

If you’re going to Germany, you’ll be better heading somewhere nice like Berlin!

Short trip around Easter

Went to Sydney for approximately one week in 2002 Easter.

Loved the city very much and would definitely recommend it to anyone heading in that direction.

Swansea

Not worth visiting!

Not bad - but been to better!

Spent three years of my University life in Swansea – it was an ‘interesting’ place.

Swansea itself is located admist beautiful surroundings – it’s by the sea, rolling hills in-land, and the surrounding countryside (such as the Gower Peninsular) is renowned for its natural beauty in the U.K. For a trip of a couple of days, Swansea does present itself as a good getaway from the busy city life of London (though it’s a bit of a far getaway from London!). Swansea however is certainly not the most cosmopolitan of places: as an example – for a place with city status (pop. 200,000+) it has no Chinese dim sum restaurants. Cheltenham (with almost 37,000) has. As for sushi – when I was there (until 2003), you couldn’t get any. Starbucks only just came in 2004.

But of course, these are things which only a long-term visiting resident would complain about ; if you’re vising for just a couple of days, by all means enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Then again, Swansea isn’t the only place for that. I would probably head further into Pembrookshire, or head to North Wales.
