I used to drive from the German border, then onto Metz and Verdun. The towns and villages offer a nice and relaxed contrast to the non-stop energy of Paris.

Anyone who visits Cashel never forgets the Rock of Cashel that looms proudly over the town. It’s well worth hiking around the rock and enjoying the views below.

I returned from a week in Venice where things were less expensive than Dublin, Ireland. The Venice Biennale this year is the best ever and many of the venues are free to see.

I think one of the most delightful things to do in Lancaster County (PA) is to stay overnight in a caboose in the Strasburg Railroad. It’s pleasant and a lot of fun.

You need to set aside time to visit Kilkenny, Ireland’s most charming medieval city. There’s a castle, a round tower you can climb from the 13th century and friendly pubs serving well past sunset on summer’s evenings. Highly recommended!

In mid-September, I want to return to http://www.flickr.com/photos/19994833@N00/sets/504359/>London and visit the Tate Modern from top to bottom. That includes the ticketed exhibitions, the bookshop and at least two of the cafes in the building.
