A tip I have about this place

Go to Chima, a Brazilian steakhouse. It is amazing! You will be served hot meat at your table and there’s a wide selection of salads, rice, fish and all kinds of other delights at the buffet. Although it is not really really cheap, it is not too expensive either and is all-you-can-eat: quality food too!

Why I recommend this place to visitors

Florida is a funny place, it seems rather separate from the rest of the United States. I’ve been to Fort Lauderdale twice, the first time with family and the second time with a friend, both in winter.
If you don’t have a car, getting around can be rather difficult as the bus systems are crap, to say the least (although quite cheap). People drive everywhere, so if you want to see all the area has to offer, I advise you rent a car!
The second time my friend & I stayed in a youth hostel a few minutes from the beach, and that hostel made our stay. We met fabulous people, spent time on the beach, partied a lot and it was altogether an unforgettable experience.
There’s more to Fort Lauderdale than the beach and marina, although that’s where most people flock to. Although some citizens can seem rather fake, we met nice Floridians too who were asking the same questions about life that we were. You can relax here and have a great time – eat well, party hard – and it won’t cost you an arm and a leg. Plus you’re bound to meet plenty of new friends :)

Why I want to go to this place

A land of contrasts – hot geysers and cold cold ice and snow. It makes for an interesting people and geography, and excites me somehow. I wish I had gone when I lived in England, but am determined my dream of visiting Iceland will come true one day :)

Why I want to go to this place

Chicago, specifically. Ever since I heard the term ‘the windy city’ I was hooked. So romantic somehow. Also interested in the architecture and the strange obsession with frying food.

Free tickets!

Winning free business class tickets made my dream of travel to South America come true. I went to Rio first, which I was really looking forward to but found rather different than I had thought. Was there in May so was not the peak season, but I found it difficult to find cultural events and nightlife – maybe only speaking very few words in Portuguese did not help!
Stayed in pousadas and a hostel, which was fun as met locals and other travelers that way.
After about 4 days headed off to Salvador, which I loved. The city is beautiful, the people friendly and they party so much; they seem to celebrate just for the joy of life. Plus I got to eat a custard apple; a fruit I have wanted to try since I first heard of it when I was about 7.
I was only there for one weekend but would like to go back! My next stop was the amazing island of Fernando de Noronha, a beautiful place off the east coast. A marine and nature reserve, tourist numbers are limited – it is like a paradise island. You can walk along the beaches and not see a soul… I have never been anywhere as remote and as idyllic – although I couldn’t live there it is another place I would not hesitate to visit again.
Although I was only in Brazil for a fortnight I found the people very friendly and had a wonderful time. I would like to go back on a longer trip and see more of this immense country (and this time know more Portuguese!)

How this place changed my life

Well it changed my life in that I grew up there… England was my home until I was 22 and decided to leave for Montreal to follow love. Crazy love :)
Leaving the UK is the hardest thing I have done in my life so far, and I did it without even really thinking about it. Now I can look at the place with the eyes of a partial outsider but love it there still, especially London which makes me feel alive and energised every time I arrive.
However there is so, so, so much more to Great Britain than its capital. This green and multi-cultural isle is magical and historical and worth discovering.
Just be prepared to drink lots of cups of tea! (speaking of which…)
