Bringing chewing gum into this country is illegal. So is spitting. That’s why it’s so beautiful. Good music scene also.

The obvious: very small place. not much to do. everything costs a lot (more than Switzerland!).

The not-so obvious: with one road running through the country/principality/town, they can actually have unpleasant traffic, maybe because the local people are mean drivers. where are they trying to get so quickly? no stamp at the border. what do people do there?

The verdict: No need to stress out over getting there. If you’re in the neighbourhood, fine. We thought visiting 4 countries in one day would be fun, but it’s just a travel footnote.

Ok, maybe showing up to the gambling Mecca of China the day after the new year isn’t the best plan but that was what happened. Only for the cheap Air Asia flight. But I thought it would be different … in a good way.

My ramshackle lodging, the general unkemptness of the place, and (to me) uninspiring local food contributed to my poor opinion of the place.

If you do find yourself there, I would recommend getting on a bus and going to the southernmost island, as far from the casino city as you can, where you will find a little village that seems entirely unbothered by the tourist hustle you’ve just escaped.

By the way, US developers are replicating part of the Las Vegas strip right beside the airport. Coming soon: CSI Macau.
