Why I want to go to this place

I use to go here all the time when I studied in Sunderland five years ago. Last month I was back in England and this was on my list of places to go. Unfortunately, they were closed for remodeling, so I guess I’m giving up on this since I don’t plan to visit England again, probably ever. So many places, so little time!

Buttermere

Worth visiting!

I knew I would love Buttermere from the pictures on this page, and I was so right! It was so beautiful but a lot more remote than even I expected. Make sure you have CASH when you get here because there is no ATM… no one will give cash back… and most of the few shops don’t even take credit cards. We almost didn’t have enough cash for the bus ride back to town… it was very scary and stressful thinking we would be stranded 8 miles from the nearest ATM! The YHA Buttermere was nice. And you HAVE to try to farm made icecream.

Cardiff

Worth visiting!

Visited a friend here for 1 day. It was really nice having someone show us around. And also, Cardiff has a lively nightlife, so of course we got to see all the best places since we made sure to go on a Saturday.

I LOVED THIS PLACE! It’s beautiful and everyone was so friendly! We were only here overnight on our way to Buttermere but I’m so glad. Not enough to do for several days but 1 or 2 days is a nice relaxing visit! Oh, and stay in the Edwardene Guest House… by far the best and most friendly guest house I stayed in on my 3 week trip all over England!

Beech Mountain

Worth visiting!

land of oz

i enjoy visiting beech mountain to visit the land of oz… the abandoned wizard of oz theme park that was popular in the late 70s. The yellow brick road is still there and some other random things. They open it up each october for a festival, but it’s nice to take a quiet walk there other times too.

Trashcan Falls

Worth visiting!

big naked jump

My favorite memory of trashcan falls was sept 12 2001. The night before we had made hundreds of flyers that we posted around boone advertising a big naked jump for world peace. I had a class that made me very late for the event, but once I arrived, there were dozens of naked people laying out on the rocks and jumping in the falls and playing guitars, banjos, bongos, harmonicas. It was a lovely college afternoon.
