Cafe Campagne

Worth visiting!

Anniversary dinner

We went here on our anniversary. The food was O.K. but I have had much better in.. France! :-)

It was nice, the desserts were the best.

Columbia River Gorge

Worth visiting!

Windsurfing

I learned to windsurf in a little lake near the gorge. I would like to say that I windsurfed in the gorge, but that would just be crazy talk b/c I could barely figure out what to do with my sail depending on the direction of the wind.

I don’t think I would make a good sailor.

Emerald City Emergency Clinic

Worth visiting!

Crap!

One evening my long-haired chihuahua, Funston was acting strangely. Just touching him caused him to squeal. As the night wore on nothing changed so we decided to take him to the emergency clinic.

We took him there and the guy at the frontdesk was soooo nice (the front desk people on lakeside are bitches). Funston got some X-rays and it turned out that he had some blocked intestines with all sorts of weird stuff. He eats anything he can get his mouth on so this wasn’t surprising. His poos always have weird things in them. He was wisked away to get an enema.

Meanwhile, I remembered that in all the flurry to get Funston to the vet, I had left the easter chocolates out (I was putting together easter eggs for my co-workers). We left our two labs at home and one of them will eat anything he can.

You know what’s coming next. My husband raced home and shortly thereafter returned with 3 empty bags of easter candy. The vet calculated the harmful effects and thankfully determined that it all should just pass without incident.

For the next week, our chocolate lab (ironic isn’t it?) passed colored foil from the easter eggs.

Gas Works Park

Worth visiting!

A tip I have about this place

Its a very nice park and I really enjoy watching the rowers silently go by early in the morning.

If you have dogs, just be aware that there is a homeless guy that sometimes camps in the bushes near the restrooms and his dogs aren’t on leash. They came out of nowhere barking at me and my dogs and I was worried that there would be a huge fight and who knows if they had their shots, etc.

Ray's Boathouse

A tip I have about this place

Go at sunset! My husband took me here for Valentine’s Day and went to great pains to ensure we got there right before sunset. Its unfortunate that sunset comes so early in February, but even though I cursed all the way from Redmond to get home on time, it was well worth it.

Langley

Not worth visiting!

The last time I went to this place

I grew up in Langley and although I feel like I should say good things about it, I’m always bored when I go there.

It is growing at an exponential rate, but I also recall how badly I wanted to get “the hell out of dodge” and move into Vancouver as soon as I was of age.

I’m just not a fan of suburbia and massive strip malls, I prefer the city with skyscapers and old, interesting architecture.

If you do end up in Langley, go to Montana’s for ribs. At least that’s what my Dad would say. I don’t eat ribs but he goes there multiple times a week. Plus on my birthday they put a moose hat on my head. Those antlers were huge!

Fort Langley

Worth visiting!

How this place changed my life

I attended Fort Langley Elementary and Fort Langley Junior High School. More than fond memories.

If you are in the area – attend May Day and give a twirl around the pole.

Burnaby

Worth visiting!

I was born here

I think its an obligation to give a shout out for the place you were born. Even if its fairly non-descript and not as fun as say Cairo.

Tanzania

(in Africa)

Worth visiting!

Why I recommend this place to visitors

I wrote an entry under “safari” but I wanted to give another shout out for Tanzania. Loved it, would go back for another safari and to see those beautiful children in the villages.

If you go, take pens and paper for the schools and cheap timex watches and shirts with city names for the locals – I can’t tell you how many times we were asked for our t-shirts and watches.
